What’s the difference between over-the-counter and prescription PPIs?

Prescription PPIs have the same chemical composition as their over-the-counter counterparts, but come in a higher dosage. They are typically taken by individuals with more severe symptoms. We recommend starting with an over-the-counter PPI if you haven’t tried one previously.
