Calcium carbonate antacids (compare to Tums®) are fast-acting tablets that neutralize your stomach acid, stop your heartburn, and provide immediate relief from your acid reflux.
How often/when should they be taken?
Antacids are typically used in the moment acid reflux symptoms occur, or in anticipation of symptoms. Generally, you can take 2-4 tablets as you feel symptoms, but avoid taking more than 10 tablets within a 24-hour period.
Are there any side effects?
Potential side effects associated with antacids include headache and constipation. If you have a history of chronic kidney disease, be sure to discuss additional side effects with your doctor.
